3 days in rome - Where to stay & what to do
When planning a vacation there are several factors that come into play. When would you like to travel? Where would you like to go? How long do you plan on traveling? And most importantly who do you want to travel with?
Hotel In Rome
Smooth hotel rome termini
When you’re looking for hotels, location is key! There are some important locations in Rome that you need to think about when choosing a hotel. You can stay by the train station, which is a great choice if you are planning to visit any other part of Italy during your stay (like we did) or you can stay closer to the tourist sites. If you are choosing to stay by the train station (Roma Termini), we stayed at the Smooth Hotel Rome Termini (also known as The Guardian) and it was beautiful and affordable! Just a short walk from the train station which connects you to the rest of Italy! The best perk was that we were 5 people and we all fit in one room.
3 day rome itinerary
What we did in Rome for 3 days.
day 1
Upon arrival in Rome we headed to our hotel to unpack, relax and have some breakfast provided by the hotel. Since it was around 8:00am and we just had a long flight we decided to use day one for the hop-on hop-off bus tour of Rome. This was the best idea we could have done! We were able to see every single site offered in Rome from the comfy seat of a bus, with free wifi! We were allowed to get on and off when we pleased, to see the sights more up close. We used the City Sightseeing Tour Bus which stopped at all of the major attractions:
•Colosseum, Piazza Venezia, Vatican, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Barberini, Santa Maria Maggiore, & Circus Maximus
•Colosseum, Piazza Venezia, Vatican, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Barberini, Santa Maria Maggiore, & Circus Maximus

day 2
We decided to spend most of day 2 touring the colosseum. We decided to do a 4 hour tour which included the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill! I highly suggest buying one of the tour packages online or even from the people right outside of the colosseum. Being on a tour ensures that you see everything and learn some history at the same time!
day 3
On our last day in Rome we spent the day in Vatican City! Again we bought a tour package and spent 4 hours inside the Vatican. It was a great idea since the Vatican is so insanely big and there was a lot to see. Having a tour guide helped us to stay on topic and learn about the history of Italy and its artists.
Restaurants in rome
Here were some of our favorites from our trip to Rome.
Piccolo abruzzo
Enjoy the best homemade Italian meal of your life! Everything served is fresh and hand-made just to your liking. One of our favorite restaurants for dinner was Piccolo Abruzzo.
Colosseum Risto bar
The cutest restaurant, Colosseum Risto Bar, a bar within steps of the famous colosseum! Stop by to grab some food before your tour and maybe some extra large drinks! As always the bill came with amazing limoncello shots and was the perfect start to our colosseum tour!
universal bar rome
Amazing food with a stellar view! Just moments away from the Vatican, what could be better? Everything you want to eat is on the menu. From pizza, to pasta, to seafood, whatever you are craving they serve! We ate at Universal Bar Rome right after our tour of The Vatican and it was just what we needed.
